Queen Alexandrina Victoria was born at Kensington Palace in London, on 24 May 1819. She was the only daughter of Edward Augustus (Duke of Kent, fourth son of George III), and Marie Louise Victoire(Princess of Leiningen). Her father died shortly after her birth so her mother and her comptroller, John Conroy raised her. George, Fredrick, and William Augustus were her three uncles whose legitimate children were not alive. The 63 years of her longer reign than any of her predecessors is known as the Victorian era. In 1940, Victoria married her first cousin Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel. It was an industrial, political, scientific, and military change period in the United Kingdom and a great expansion of the British Empire. In 1876, she got the additional “Empress of India” title.

Prince Albert was the son of Victoria’s maternal uncle Ernst Anton Karl Ludwig or Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. In 1836, they met first time, and both became attracted to each other for their intelligence and abilities. Albert supported social reforms and education too even played a key role Great Exhibition in 1851.

At the age of 42,  her husband Albert died of typhoid fever on 14 December 1861. Victoria was so devastated that she wore only black clothes after his death, people tagged her as “widow queen “.

In 1871, her marriage happened to John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell(John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll).

Arthur William Patrick Albert (1850-1942): known as Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. His profession was military officer and statesman. In 1900, Canada appointed him as governor General.

Leopold George Duncan Albert(1853-1884): known as Leopold, Duke of Albany. He was sick suffered from hemophilia, and died at the age of 30. Princess Helen of Waldeck and Pyrmont became his wife from 1882 to his death.

Beatrice Mary Victoria Theodore (1857-1944): youngest and most devoted child of her parents. In 1885, she married Henry Maurice(Prince Henry of Battenberg) and became Beatrice, Princess Henry of Battenberg.

Edward Oxford fired two pistols at Victoria on 10 June 1840, when she was riding an open carriage with Prince Albert. Guards arrested Oxford after two missed shots. He was 19 years old and believed queen’s death revolution and established a republic nation. When his crimes were proven, the death sentence was his punishment, later it changed to life imprisonment. After 27 years, he was released from prison, and he died in 1907.

The assassination attempt gave a major shock to the British people. After 1800, King George III was the first assassination attempt by the royal family. Metropolitan Police started to take on a more prominent role for Queen and other royal family members protection.
