When we look at the Spencer family tree, she was also related to Winston Churchill. He and the late princess were distant cousins and relatives. Charles Spencer Earl of Sunderland III(1675-1722), married Lady Anne Churchill, Countess of Sunderland (1646 – 1715), who was five-times-great- grandparents of Winston Churchill and seven-times-great-grandparents of Diana. Sir Winston Churchill’s grandson, Lord Nicholas Soames has been one of Charles’s closest confidantes and friends for decades. They got to know each other in 1970 when Soames was appointed an equerry position to Charles for two years. Nicolas raised his head above the parapet when he criticized Diana for her conduct during the couple’s estrangement, he blame her for having “paranoia”. When Charles later admitted adultery, Nicholas apologized to Diana for his behavior. Though he was more than a family friend, King Charles has always been close to his cousin.
